The name V1700 is inspired by the very beginning of Vergelegen some 323 years ago. V1700 was designed to be a small batch collection of the very best wines the estate was able to produce each year. 2015 was a super vintage, one of the best in winemaker Andre van Rensburg's career that spans over 30 years. The wine is complex with dark fruit, spice and cedar wood. It has soft and elegant tannins and a very long aftertaste. We adopted the process of hand picking the best bunches off the Vineyard, then hand picking the very best grapes off each bunch, all to produce the finest wine the Estate could offer. The ripeness on 2015 wines is perfect and again simulates the mechanism of a fine watch. Nothing is out of place or over the top. This is Vergelegen at its very best, V1700 is timeless, effortless and incomparable.
