V1700 at the Greenwich Wine + Food Gala

V1700 at the Greenwich Wine + Food Gala

The 10th anniversary gala of Greenwich Wine + Food was held in honor of legendary chef Jacques Pépin, and it was a truly spectacular celebration!

The combination of celebrity chefs preparing 4 course meals tableside for their guests, live art installations being created by 5iveFingaz and Vergelegen Wines being the wine partner for the event, resulted in a vibrant and noisy energy across a crowd that was clearly there to have fun.

Greenwich Wine + Food is built on a core mission to give back to the community and lift up those in need and the evening was about raising awareness and funds for co-beneficiaries Wholesome Wave and The Jacques Pépin Foundation.

For VClubwine, it was an opportunity to not only showcase the wines alongside the leading Culinary talent but also the first time the V1700 had been exposed to a broader US audience. The response...... sensational!

Whereas the wines in the flagship range pride themselves on the "single block" philosophy of production, the V1700 is created with the freedom to roam and as a result brings something  that truly resembles the essence of the entire Vergelegen estate. This 2015 vintage is without doubt one of the finest in recent South African wine history...... so to be able to debut the V1700 (2015) was a special opportunity.

The list of Chef and food highlights is literally too long to mention but we will profile the talent and the menus in the days to come on our social media channels. What was clear to us throughout was the collaborative, passionate and "pride in their craft" nature of everyone involved, and we had a lot of fun being part of this.. Seeing Chef Pépin putting the final touches on Chad Welch's dessert and cracking open Matt Storch's clay baked chicken were something special. You could tell from the way the chefs and crowd gathered around that this is a man who has a reputation and passion that is respected and loved amongst his peers..... and the fact he enjoyed the Vergelegen wines (particularly the MMV, Chardonnay and G.V.B White) were in itself enough of a highlight for us!

Great evening, good people, sensational food and wine and all for a good cause!
